ABOUT THE IANTD:
- International Associaton Nitrox and Technical Divers -
IANTD Is the only EANx agency that offers training in All aspects of EANx, through continuing education programs. IANTD instructors are well trained, highly experienced and extremely qualified. IANTD statndards and procedures provide for the highest level of EANx education and training available.
IANTD Inc was founded by Dick Rutkowski, the former dive supervisor for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Mr. Rutkowski introduced the recreational diving community to the technology of EANx. This program was developed through NOAA during his tenure. Today the board of directors and the membership of IANTD are composed of many of the most experience divers in the world, pertaining to the use of breathing gases other then air.
IANTD did struggle in the early years. As it was the first program to offer certification in Enriched Air Nitrox diving. The company was kept at a slow, yet steady pace from 1985 through februar 1992, with the support of Hyperbaric International. In 1991 Tom Mount joined Dick Rutkowski and IANTD became the First to offer training programs in all aspects of Technical Diving Courses (Advanced Nitrox, Deep Air, Technical Diver, Cave and Wreck penetration, Normoxic Trimix Diving, Trimix, Rebreathers and Gas Blending Course). And now Free Diving Too!
In 1992, Tom and Patti Mount were asked to take over the management of the company. To keep overhead low, IANTD operated in the home of Tom and Patti Mount until April 1, 1994. IANTD now have a comfortably efficient office. IANTD today has seven staff members in it's office daily (plus two part-time) to handle the business generated by IANTD instructors and facilities.
In februar, 1992 there were no assets, an increasing debt and a hard road ahead. Tom Mount became the President. Dick and Tom appointed Patti Mount as General Manager of IANTD. Due to Patti's guidance and the support of our instructors, IANTD produced a gross income (bringing it out of the red) with a slight profit in 1992. In 1993 these same efforts produced a growth of four times that of 1992, plus a substantial inventory of products. To date for 1995, thanks to IANTD facilities, instructors and members our business is up to 70% over that during the same time period in 1994, and IANTD continues to broaden their invertory of products (many of which have been at divers request). In 1996, Tom was appointed CEO of IANTD and Patti was appointd President of IANTD.
This growth will enable IANTD to continue to offer more and better services to all IANTD divers. As most of the money brought in has been resourcefully reinvested back into IANTD towards new products and their development. IANTD has provided instructors with more support materials and better training aids.
These Include:
- Text and student workbooks for all levels of Basic Open Water Diver, EANx, Advanced EANx, Overhead Environment, Deep Air, Technical Diver, Normixic Trimix, Trimix, Cave, Wreck, Rebreathers, Blending, DPV and now also Free Diving!
- Dive tables for air and various EANx and Trimix mixtures on waterproof materials are available. Most of these provide for stops on EAN 80 through pure Oxygen.
- Tables for determining PO2's, CNS Toxicity % as well as OTU's accumulated. EAD tables, NOAA I & II, Navy Air and New IANTD Air, and easy to use Gas Matching Tables and Specialized Helium and EANx or Air tables, some accelerated and extended run time, too.
- In addition other aids are available and IANTD is developing new training and operational materials.
- A Facility Manual is completed and published.
IANTD was the first to be able to provide insurance for teaching technical diving applications and then in june 1995, both Open Water and Technical Diving applications as well as DiveMaster insurance were offered.
It has developed training programs for all levels of advanced recreational and technical free diving, Scuba diving and Rebreather diving.
IANTD is supported by a firm foundation upon which you and we can grow and be of service to the diving community.
Standards:
- IANTD updated its standards june 2001 to represent all the latest advances in various technologies (as IANTD did when they initially implemented IANTD Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver and Rebreather levels several years ago) and to insure they are legally adequate and defensible.
- All future changes in standards will be produced based on recommendations of our board of IANTD's advisors and subcommittees formed from the instructors active in the specific areas involved. Even then, a three month lead time as proposed by Randy Bohrer, will be incorporated prior to the actual change in practice.
- IANTD also developed a quality control system, again at the recommendation of Randy Bohrer. This process is placed in the care of the advisory board. Since its inception, IANTD world headquarters and its associated international licenses have skillfully and very succesfully implemented the process.
An even brighter future will be characterized by all of IANTD's programs becoming even stronger. We will all benefit from the feedback those of you in the field continue to send in. We have grown and become stable enough to really concentrate on the nitty gritty, more user friendliy innovations instead of just having to concentrate on the big picture as was necessary to "get the ball rolling". Our focus for the future is to strenghten the overall company and to continue to enhance our service areas. One of our primary goals is to provide you, the facilities and instructors, with more communication on how to increase your profit structures while maintaining yet rigid, well respected standards. IANTD will be gradually combining all its workbooks into combined manuals (text) and workbooks. This will include all levels of rebreather, technical wreck, technical cave, technical deep diving (a combination of Deep Air and Technical EANx and Normoxic Trimix) and T)rimix training. We highly value your overwhelming confidence in IANTD and your enthusiastic support of the highest quality advanced and technical training agency in the world.
Remember, IANTD could avoid criticism simply by saying nothing, doing nothing and being nothing. As a leader and ethical organization IANTD is: Saying something, Doing something and Being something. We are presenting safe and proven concepts for advanced recreational and technical diving. We do not comromise where an issue of safety or a need for knowledge is at sake. Proper equipment is an essential element. On the other hand we have been, and will continue to be, receptive to the needs of our instructors, members and the overall diving community. Your input and ideas will continue to determine the Safe direction of the IANTD.
We do service your needs as well we value and respect you as a person, whether you are a dedicated hobbyist or a dive professionals.
